Ransomeware Tools

The Good News

Ransomware has become a menace that strikes companies and individuals alike, but researchers have offered some promising evidence that we may one day be able to stop it before it does any damage.

What is Ransomware?

The most rapidly growing category of malware is cryptographic ransomware, software that infects a computer through the same means as other malicious software, and then quietly scrambles users’ files, making them unreadable. By the time victims discover the problem, the malware explains to them they have to pay a fee for the encryption key that will make their files usable again.

It just applies an encryption to all your files, you do not have the key to unencrypt it. It’s very similar to adding a password to open any files and saying “I’ll tell you the password for X dollars,” hence where the “ransome” part comes in.

Free Tools to Decrypt Your Files

Although there may not be a sure fire way to decrypt your files, even if you pay the ransom, there are some free tools you can try that may save your files. These tools were written by people in their spare time to aid others, and possibly themselves, after they themselves got frustrated. Check these out.
